Associate Pastor Donald Abney

Brother Donald was born on the 3rd day of August 1953 to Donald Ray Sr. and Peggy Abney. He has two other brothers, Ronald Abney and Charles Abney, and one sister, Charlotte Abney. He was raised most of his childhood and teenage years in Fultondale, Alabama.

Donald was wed to Barbara Barbee on the 26th day of January 1971. As their love began to grow so did their household. Donald and Barbara have two children, Clint and Steve. Donald lived an unruly life up until January of 84, when he was struck by an automobile while intoxicated in public. On the day he was brought home by his wife, he heard his thirteen year old son Clint say, "Daddy's drunk again". When this was spoken, his heart was cut to the center. He knew that his life was not only leading to an eternity in hell, but also that his example may lead his family as well. So, during this time in his life he knelt in his bedroom of a 16'x 60' trailer, and gave his heart and life to Jesus. The following Sunday morning he awoke and proceeded to get dressed for church. When he was asked where he was going, he said, I'm going to church, If you are going get in the car. As he attended the services that morning he made his decision for Jesus public. He was called to preach shortly after and was licensed to the gospel ministry on the 9th day of February 1986 under the leadership of Bill Davision and the Grand Old Gospel House Baptist Church where he served faithfully for years.

He was ordained into the ministry, and as the Pastor of Mt. Olive Independent Baptist Church on the 12th day of January 1997. He was the Senior Pastor of Mt. Olive Independent Church for 2 years. During his ministry he has seen many people come to know the Lord. He has also set a Godly example for others to follow along the way.

Brother Donald is now the Associate Pastor of North Highland Baptist Church and has been serving here from 2001 until this present day.
