Rejoicing in Past Salvation
Psalm 20:5
We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
Thought:
David looks backward and rejoices in God’s salvation. He is not guessing about God’s character; he is remembering it. Salvation is more than a doctrine; it is proof that God has already met our greatest need in Christ.
When we “rejoice in Thy salvation,” we:
These memories are not nostalgia; they are weapons against fear and despair. What was once bondage is now a testimony of grace; what was once sorrow is now a reason for praise.
“We will set up our banners” speaks of identity and victory. Israel’s tribes each had banners, but Moses could say, “The LORD is my banner” (Jehovah Nissi). In Christ, our banner is not our achievements, family name, or reputation. Our banner is the name of our God, the One who has saved us and claims us as His own.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for saving me and for every past mercy You have shown. Help me to remember and rejoice in Your salvation, to set up the banner of Your name over my life, and to let my history with You strengthen my faith today. Turn my past into a testimony that glorifies You. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

When we “rejoice in Thy salvation,” we:
- Remember the moment the Lord saved us.
- Recall answered prayers and great grace.
- Rejoice because of the burdens He has lifted and the sins He has forgiven.
These memories are not nostalgia; they are weapons against fear and despair. What was once bondage is now a testimony of grace; what was once sorrow is now a reason for praise.
