Standing in Certain Victory
Psalm 20:8–9
They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright.
Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call.
Thought:
Psalm 20 ends with two powerful realities: the fall of God’s enemies and the rise of God’s people. Those who trust in their own strength may appear strong for a time, but their foundation is weak. When the testing comes, they are “brought down and fallen.”
In contrast, those who trust in the Lord often appear weak at first, yet “we are risen, and stand upright.” It’s not about how capable we are, but about who’s supporting us. Jesus’ resurrection shows us that even when things seem lost, God can still lead us to victory.
Revelation 12 reminds us that believers “overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” Our victory is not in ourselves but in Christ.
The closing cry, “Save, LORD: let the king hear us when we call,” echoes down to us in Christ. The Father heard the Son, and now, in the Son, the Father hears us. Everything, our salvation, security, peace, and victory, rests in the name of the Lord.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ I share in a victory that is already won. When evil seems strong, and I feel weak, remind me that those who oppose You will fall, but those who trust in You will stand. Teach me to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony. Thank You that You hear me when I call because You have heard Your beloved Son. Help me to live, stand, and pray in the power of His name. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
