God Is Light
1 John 1:5
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Thought:
God is not just a giver of light. He is light. That means everything about Him is pure, true, and holy. There is no mixture in Him, no hidden sin or shadow.
We often think what we see with our eyes is all there is. But even in nature there is more light than we can see. Our eyes see only a small part of the light spectrum. In the same way, we cannot see all of who God is with our eyes or even with our minds. Yet He is always present.
When the Bible says God is light, it also tells us that evil and darkness are what happens when people push God away. Darkness is not stronger than light. Darkness is only the absence of light. In the same way, evil is not stronger than God. It is what remains when people refuse His truth, His goodness, and His holiness.
This gives us confidence. The world can feel dark, confusing, and scary. Our own hearts can feel dark when we think of our sins, our fears, and our failures. But God is light. He is greater than all the darkness around us and inside us. When we turn to Him, we are not coming to a God who might change or fail. We come to a perfectly pure and faithful God who never walks in darkness and never brings darkness to us.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You that You are light and there is no darkness in You at all. Help me remember that You are always pure, holy, and true, even when my life feels dark and confusing. Teach me to trust Your character when I cannot see what You are doing. Let Your light shine into my heart and my home. In Jesus name, amen.
