Saved by Grace
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Thoughts:
Today's verses contain one of the clearest explanations of salvation in all of Scripture. We are saved by grace through faith, and this is not our own doing, it is the gift of God. This truth demolishes any idea that we can earn our salvation or contribute to it in any way.
Grace is God's unmerited favor, His kindness to us when we deserved punishment. Faith is the means by which we receive this grace, but even our faith is a gift from God. This leaves no room for boasting or self-boasting. Our salvation is entirely God's work from start to finish.
Consider today how this truth impacts your daily life. Do you sometimes slip into trying to earn God's favor? How does understanding salvation as a gift change your approach to your relationship with God?
Prayer:
Take time to thank God for His indescribable gift of grace and for the faith to receive it.
