Not Of The World But Still In It
John 17:15-16
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.
Thought:
Jesus did not ask the Father to remove His disciples from the world. Instead, He prayed that they would be protected from evil while remaining in it. This reveals that our calling is not to escape the world but to live faithfully in it. We are meant to be present in workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and families that do not always share our values. Yet in those very places God desires to display His power to keep us holy.
This means that resistance to sin is not found in changing our location but in deepening our connection to the Lord. We are not defined by our surroundings but by our Savior. When we feel overwhelmed by darkness or pressure to compromise, we can remember that Jesus has already prayed for our protection. Our task is to trust His prayer by staying close to Him, filling our minds with His word, and walking in dependence on His Spirit.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that You have not abandoned me in this world but have prayed that I would be kept from evil. Strengthen my heart today to live in this world without being shaped by its sin. Help me to remember that I belong to You and not to the spirit of this age. Guard my mind, my eyes, my words, and my steps. Let my life be a testimony that Your power is greater than the temptations around me. I ask this in Your name, Jesus, Amen.
