Mercy Searched Jonah’s Heart

Jonah 4:2
For I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

Thought
Jonah knew the truth about God, but he struggled to love what God loved. He believed God was gracious, merciful, patient, and kind, but he did not want Nineveh to receive that mercy. His theology was correct, yet his heart was not aligned with the heart of God. Salvation is of the LORD, which means it belongs to Him to give freely according to His mercy.

The same question comes to us today. Do we rejoice when God saves people who are different from us, difficult for us, or guilty of sins that offend us? If we have received mercy, we should desire mercy for others. Ask God to give you more than just a head-knowledge doctrine. Ask Him to give you His heart for the lost.

Prayer
Father, search my heart and remove anything that resents Your mercy toward others. Thank You for saving me by grace through Jesus Christ. Help me gladly share the message that salvation is of the LORD. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
