Mercy Found Jonah
Jonah 2:9
But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
Thought
Jonah was a prophet, but he was also a sinner in need of mercy. He ran from God’s command, resisted God’s heart, and tried to flee from God’s presence. Yet even in the deep, God pursued him. The great fish was not only correction. It was also mercy. God preserved Jonah’s life and brought him to the confession that stands at the center of the story: Salvation is of the LORD.
We must remember that before we carry mercy to others, we first receive mercy from God. We are not better than the people we hope to reach. We are rescued people speaking to people who need rescue. Let Jonah’s prayer become your own confession today. Your salvation belongs to the Lord from beginning to end.

Lord, thank You for showing mercy to me when I did not deserve it. Forgive me for pride, disobedience, and a cold heart toward others. Teach me to live as one who has been rescued by Your grace. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
