Kept While We Remain
John 17:14–15
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Thought:
Jesus reminds us that His people are marked by His Word. He said, “I have given them thy word,” and that Word separates the believer from the spirit, values, desires, and direction of the world. The Christian does not belong to this world in the same way Christ does not belong to this world. We live, serve, and witness here, but our identity and hope come from above.
Jesus did not pray for the Father to remove His disciples from the world. He prayed that the Father would keep them from evil. This means the Christian life is not a call to escape the world, but to remain faithful in it. God has not left us here by accident. He has placed us here with purpose, but He also knows the danger around us and the weakness within us. That is why we need the keeping power of God every day.
Today, remember that being different from the world is not something to be ashamed of. It is evidence that the Word of God is doing its work in you. The hatred of the world does not mean you have lost your place. It may mean you are living from your true place in Christ. Ask the Lord to keep your heart clean, your mind guarded, and your life anchored in His Word while you remain in this world for His glory.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me Your Word and for making me belong to You through Jesus Christ. Help me to live in this world without being shaped by its evil. Keep my heart from compromise, my mind from confusion, and my steps from sin. Give me courage to stand in truth, grace to love others well, and strength to remain faithful where You have placed me. Keep me by Your power and use my life for Your glory. In the name of Jesus, amen.
