A Family of Faith
John 12:1-3
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. 3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Thoughts:
The family in Bethany, consisting of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, each had a unique relationship with Jesus. Together, they paint a beautiful picture of a family united in faith, each expressing their devotion in different ways.
This reminds us of the beauty of the Church. The Church is a family of believers, each with different gifts and expressions of faith, but united in our love for Christ. Like Martha, some may express their faith through service. Others, like Mary, may be drawn to sit in worship. And like Lazarus, some may be powerful testimonies of God's transforming work.
Today, appreciate the diversity within the body of Christ. Recognize that your way of expressing faith is valuable, but so are others' expressions that might look different from yours. Also, recognize that each of these family members MUST be a reflection of our lives in some way. While it cannot occur every time, each expression MUST take place at some point. How can you encourage and support your brothers and sisters in Christ in their unique spiritual journeys?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the beautiful diversity in Your Church. Help me to appreciate and encourage others in their faith journey, and to play my unique part in the body of Christ.
