Making Room for People
1 Peter 4:9
Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Thought:
Hospitality in Scripture is more than entertaining guests. It is opening your life for the good of others. In the early church, believers opened their homes, shared their resources, and welcomed strangers because they recognized that they belonged to the same spiritual family. For us today, hospitality might be a meal around a table, a ride to church, a listening ear, a place to rest, or simply time set aside to care for someone who is weary and tired. It is the simple but powerful message that says, there is room for you in my life.
Peter adds that we are to practice this hospitality without grudging. It is possible to serve on the outside while complaining on the inside. We can open our doors but keep our hearts closed. When service interrupts our plans and requires sacrifice, our true attitude is revealed. The Gospel reminds us that Jesus made room for us. He welcomed us freely when we had nothing to offer and no way to repay. That memory transforms our service. Instead of seeing people as interruptions, we see them as opportunities to show Christ. Ask God today to help you open your home, your schedule, and your heart in ways that reflect the hospitality of His grace.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for making room for me at Your table when I did not deserve it. Teach me to welcome others with the same grace. Remove selfishness and resentment from my heart. Help me to see people the way You see them and to serve them gladly. May my home, my words, and my time reflect the hospitality of Your love. In the name of Jesus, amen.
